Pill Minder

Approximately 60,000 emergency department (ED) visits result from unintentional medication overdoses among children under the age of 5 every year. This is due to children ingesting medication from an unsecured medical container. Our goal is to reduce and eventually get rid of this number of overdoses by creating a pill minder that is child-resistant to finally eliminate these starting statics.  A pill minder is a multi-compartment container used commonly for organizing pills in a scheduled manner.

Pill minders are a very widespread product found in a variety of stores, however, there is a critical lack of child-resistant versions of these products despite the wide variety of medical doses these types of storages hold.

To achieve our goal, we have a partner with Dr. Spoerner who serves on the task force for the Prevention of Overdoses and Treatment Errors in Children (PROTECT) at the Centers for Disease Control. She has spent a large portion of her career working with CDC and many local children hospital working on different initiatives to reduce accidental child medical overdoses.

Our final goal is to create a new type of pill minder which in addition to being children-resistant, will provide portable trays and flexibility to adults while ensuring the safety of thousands of children.
